In the early years of the Republic of China, it is rumored that at the puppet theater, there are successive cases of rickshaw pullers going missing and an additional puppet appearing thereafter. The police are ordered to investigate it. However, with the company of the theater manager Zijun, they discover nothing unusual. On the night after the police left, halfway through the performance, everyone in the theater disappears out of thin air, leaving only Zijun. Unexpectedly, a puppet comes to life and begins to chase after Zijun. Many terrifying and strange things begin to happen to Zijun one after another, and one of the puppets turns out to be his best friend Lin Mei. Whether the people around him are possessed by puppets or are actually puppets; Zijun can hardly distinguish between reality and illusions anymore. But all the clues point to a fire incident.
